NONGPOH, May 20: A theft attempt at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Umiam, Ri-Bhoi, fell flat after the miscreants were unsuccessful in purloining the money from a metal safe.
According to reports, the incident occurred around midnight on Sunday when unknown miscreants took advantage of the cover of darkness to force their way into the bank.
Albeit the miscreants managed to break the grills of the rear window, they were unable to breach the strong metal safe where the money was stored. Consequently, they left empty-handed.
The theft attempted was discovered on Monday morning when an SBI staff arrived at the branch.
No sooner had the employees noticed the broken grill on the window than they alerted the Umiam Police Station.
Meanwhile, the police are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery and are working to identify the suspects involved.
