SHILLONG, May 21: Senior BJP leader and South Shillong legislator, Sanbor Shullai, has urged the state government to provide a facelift to the roads in his constituency by implementing bituminous concrete road schemes.
In a letter to the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong, Shullai stressed the necessity of the upgrade in light of several proposed projects, including a ropeway from Shillong Peak viewpoint to Madan Laban (Raid Laban), and other important link roads within South Shillong constituency.
Shullai emphasised that such infrastructural improvements would significantly boost tourism and alleviate traffic congestion throughout Shillong.
“The roads within the municipal area of South Shillong constituency need a modern-day facelift by implementing the bituminous concrete road schemes. Such beautification of roads, with proper demarcation  for parking and other provisions, will ensure the constituency will add glory towards the Smart City Scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
Meanwhile, while addressing media persons here, Shullai mentioned that the minister has instructed the Chief Engineer to prepare an estimate for the project.
He also noted that the proposed bituminous concrete road scheme, alongside the complete blacktopping of all existing PWD roads, particularly within the municipal area, will greatly benefit the residents of South Shillong constituency.
