SHILLONG, May 21: As part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a textbook for the Communicative English course for the four-year undergraduate programme of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has been launched.
According to a statement here, the book, Articulate: A Course in English Communication, was launched by Vice Chancellor in-charge of NEHU Prof. DK Nayak during a programme at St. Edmund’s College.
“Prepared by Shillong Forum for English Studies (SFES) of the English Department of NEHU and published by Cambridge University Press and Assessment India Pvt Ltd, this is the first textbook of NEHU in which the textual contents have been integrated with digital resources having personalised online access for each student,” the statement said.
While launching the book, Prof. Nayak appreciated the efforts of the English Department of NEHU for having brought out a “well-conceived” textbook on a topic as crucial as Communicative English for the students of NEHU.
On the other hand, Chairman of SFES and Head of English Department, NEHU, Prof. Jyotirmoy Prodhani, had mentioned that the mode of contemporary teaching-learning process was undergoing radical transformations, posing new challenges to the conventional pedagogy to reach out to the students in the current times.
South Asia Director of Cambridge University Press and Assessment Pvt Ltd, Arunachalam T. Krishnamurthy, in his address, informed that the publishing house was happy to bring out a highly sophisticated textbook on communicative English for NEHU, which, he added, would be a model template for universities and institutions across the country.
It may be mentioned that the launch event was followed by a special workshop on how to make effective use of the book and its digital resources.
