SHILLONG, May 21: The All India Garo Union has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for regularisation of the service for Grade IV casual employees of Civil Secretariat, who have completed more than 10 years.
Referring to a Supreme Court judgment, the Union said that the aforesaid employees have been rendering their service for more than 10 years on a meagre salary of Rs 15,000 per month, without any other facilities.
Lamenting the provision of inadequate residential quarter facilities for the state government employees, the Union said many are forced to seek accommodation in rented houses, due to which navigating to their respective offices, especially amid the wonted tailbacks, becomes an arduous task.
The Union also demanded a burial ground in the state capital for the Garo community, contending that the burial ground near Ganesh Das Hospital, which was allotted to them, is getting exhausted.
