Group proposes rehab centre in Nongstoin

SHILLONG, May 22: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), West Khasi Hills, recently held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Garod LSN Dykes and Superintendent of Police BD Marak over the issue of drug-related and anti-social activities in Nongstoin town in particular and West Khasi Hills in general.
During the meeting, the HYC proposed the establishment of a rehabilitation centre in Nongstoin to assist those struggling with addiction.
The HYC also requested the DC to coordinate with the government in this regard.
Further, the HYC urged the SP to bolster the Anti-Narcotic Task Force and increase patrolling teams in Nongstoin to improve public safety.
It may be mentioned that the meeting focused on strategies to combat the drug problem and other social issues.
The DC was also asked to action against the use of unused shops and houses in Nongstoin market as temporary shelters for criminal activities.
