Man uses wedding invite to air protest against EVMs
Latur, May 26: A man from Maharashtra’s Latur district has expressed his opposition to the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) through his wedding invite. The wedding invitation card of Deepak Kamble, a resident of Ajansonda (Khurd) in Chakur tehsil, carries the message “Ban EVM; Save Democracy”. Kamble, whose wedding is scheduled in Latur city on June 8, said protests and rallies are being held in several cities, with demonstrators urging the Election Commission to revert to ballot papers. “This movement had gained momentum before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. To spread awareness among my relatives and friends, I have printed my protest against EVMs on the wedding invite,” Kamble told PTI. Kamble has also printed photos of saints, social reformers and freedom fighters and some of their teachings on his wedding invite. (PTI)

Man mauled to death by tiger in Maharashtra
Chandrapur, May 26: A 48-year-old man was mauled to death by a tiger in the forests of Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district on Sunday, a forest official said. The victim, Prabhakar Ambadas Wethe had ventured into the forest to collect tendu leaves, the official said. The man’s body was discovered in the Sindewahi range, he said. With this, nine persons have died in man-animal conflicts in the district so far this year, he said, adding that 25 persons were killed in such incidents in 2023. (PTI)

Kerala food poisoning: 70 hospitalised
Thrissur, May 26: Around 70 people who consumed food from a restaurant a day ago sought treatment at various hospitals on Sunday in this central Kerala district due to alleged food poisoning, health officials said. An official in the district health department said that 60 to 70 people who ate at a restaurant in the Moonnupeedika area sought treatment at various hospitals. “None of them are in serious condition,” the official said. “The authorities have sealed the hotel following the incident,” said a police official. 12 devotees dead in UP road mishap
Shahjahanpur, May 26: Twelve people, including six women and three children, headed to the Purnagiri temple in Uttarakhand were killed when a gravel-loaded dumper truck overturned on their bus in this district, police said Sunday. Nine other pilgrims were seriously injured in the Saturday night incident and have been admitted to the a hospital. Shahjahanpur SP Ashok Kumar Meena told PTI that the accident took place at Hajiyapur village under the Khutar police station area when the privately owned bus carrying 59 passengers from Sitapur had halted at a roadside eatery on its way to the temple. While some of the devotees had alighted for dinner, others waited inside the bus. Suddenly, the dumper truck carrying gravel lost control, overturned and fell onto their bus, unloading the content on the waiting pilgrims, the SP said. According to Meena, 10 passengers died on the spot, while two succumbed during treatment. (PTI)
