SHILLONG, May 28: The KHADC has summoned the owner of a high-rise building in the Umshing-Mawkynroh locality near the Mawlai Bypass
This eight-storied building was constructed without necessary building permission from the council.
This high-rise building is at risk due to the landslide in view of the heavy downpour since Monday night.
A source pointed out that the building is owned by an MCS officer.
KHADC Chief Engineer, F Syiem said the owner of the building has been summoned on Thursday.
Syiem said the council had stopped the construction of this high-rise building about three weeks back following a media report that pointed to safety concerns since the eight-storied building is located just above Grace Academy School.
Both the school management and the parents had expressed concern about the safety of the children, questioning why the authorities had allowed such a high rise to come up especially when the state falls under the seismic zone 5 and is prone to earthquakes.
