13 houses damaged: SWKH DC

MAWKYRWAT, May 29: A total of 13 houses were affected on Wednesday by the heavy downpour triggered by Cyclone Remal, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T. Lyngwa said.
According to Lyngwa, who is also the District Disaster Management Authority Chairman, field staff have also been faced with challenges while conducting a comprehensive assessment.
Informing that heavy to very heavy rainfall was reported on Wednesday in different parts of South West Khasi Hills, Lyngwa said that immediate relief, including essential food supplies and tarpaulins, has been provided to severely affected households in Lawblei village under Mawkyrwat C&RD Block.
He also assured that efforts were under way to restore electricity and network connectivity in order to improve communication and coordination.
He informed that power supply to many areas affected by the cyclone has also been affected.
Meanwhile, the general public has been asked to remain indoors and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety in view of Cyclone Remal.
