SHILLONG, May 30: The roof of Jmik Sumer and Rona Mynsong’s house in Mawdulop village, Mawkynrew C&RD Block, East Khasi Hills, was torn off by strong winds and heavy rain around 2 pm on Wednesday.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, though the family’s belongings and property inside the house were damaged.
At the time of the storm, the father, the sole breadwinner for his family, was working in the fields far from home despite the severe weather. He supports his seven children, including four sons and three daughters, all of whom are minors, with the eldest being only 13 years old.
On Thursday, the village dorbar, along with local villagers, came together to assist the family by helping to rebuild their house.
The Sordar and Secretary of the village dorbar promptly reported the incident to the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mawkynrew through the Gramsevak in-charge, as well as to the BDO, and local MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh.
Both the MLA and the BDO have assured the family of their support in the aftermath of the storm, promising assistance to help them recover from the damage caused by the severe weather.
