BIS DG bats for quality standards in products & processes

SHILLONG, June 5: Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Pramod Kumar Tiwari, has underscored the importance of quality consciousness in products and processes during an interactive here.
Addressing stakeholders from industries, academia, and laboratories, Tiwari highlighted the critical role of certified standards in promoting quality.
Tiwari also stressed the need for awareness and sensitisation around standards, while emphasising compliance with quality control orders for manufacturers.
He then discussed various BIS initiatives, including hallmarking, BIS CARE app, and key standards for everyday products.
The BIS DG also elaborated on the significance of product certification (ISI mark), management systems certification, hallmarking of gold and silver jewellery, and laboratory services, aiming to benefit both industries and consumers.
The interactive session, organised by the BIS Guwahati Branch Office, was attended by Commissioner & Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, Pravin Bakshi, along with other officials.
“The interaction aimed to foster collaboration and discuss key issues related to the massive initiatives undertaken by BIS for propagation of Standard Promotional Activities in various sectors of the economy to build a robust quality ecosystem. The session deliberated on various schemes of BIS for safeguarding the interest of the consumers,” a statement in this regard said.
