SHILLONG, June 14: The ruling National People’s Party is in no mood to snap its ties with the BJP.
NPP senior leader and Cabinet Minister, Rakkam A Sangma on Friday said they will continue to be a part of the NDA since the state needs the support of the Union Government.
“Without the Government of India’s support, nothing will happen in Meghalaya as revenue generation is very low. We are with the BJP and NDA for the sake of governance,” he said.
Asked if the BJP-NPP partnership is hurting the latter in Meghalaya, Sangma said that whatever had to happen has happened and the result of the Lok Sabha election has come as a wakeup call for the NPP to work harder in future.
Sangma also confirmed that the NPP will contest the Gambegre Assembly bye-election even though he refused to comment on whether the NPP-BJP combine will contest the poll.
