BSF, police seize more than 19,000 kg sugar

SHILLONG, June 16: In a joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier and Meghalaya Police have confiscated sugar weighing over 19,000 kg from Rongra area of the South Garo Hills district.
Acting on tip-off, personnel of BSF and Meghalaya Police launched the operation near the international border, following which they recovered huge quantity of sugar stored in an abandoned house, which was reportedly meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
The recovered sugar was subsequently handed over to Rongra Police Station for further investigation and necessary legal action.
