KVK felicitates farmers for doubling income achievements
SHILLONG, June 18: The Office of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nongshillong, West Khasi Hills, organised a felicitation programme to honour farmers who successfully doubled their income between 2018 and 2022. The event celebrated the accomplishments of selected farmers from the West and Eastern West Khasi Hills. In his keynote address, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, West Khasi Hills, Saikat Sinha, congratulated the farmers for their hard work and success in achieving the Doubling Farmers Income (DFI) goals. He urged them to continue their cooperation for the overall socio-economic and financial upliftment of the districts. The chief guest, J Sohshang, Sordar of Belkhariang village, commended the farmers’ efforts and highlighted the importance of reaping the benefits of their hard work. He acknowledged the significant contributions of KVK and encouraged farmers to follow the scientific and technological guidance provided by experts for improving their livelihoods. During the event, farmer participants shared testimonials about their experiences and how KVK’s interventions helped them double their income. Certificates were presented to the DFI beneficiaries, and the programme concluded with the distribution of critical agricultural inputs, including vegetable seeds and fruit tree saplings. The felicitation programme underscored the successful collaboration between KVK and local farmers, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the farmers’ quality of life.

WGH officials get trained on new criminal laws
TURA, June 18: Ahead of the nationwide implementation of the new criminal laws, a training programme was on Tuesday organised for the officials of West Garo Hills district. Organised by the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI), Shillong, at Circuit House, Tura, the programme was aimed to train and equip the district officials with necessary information and knowledge for the effective enforcement of the criminal laws. It may be mentioned that the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will come into effect from July 1, 2024.
