SHILLONG, June 22: Mandatory Poison and Other Shillong Things, a travel book authored by Prof. Bikika Laloo Tariang of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) was recently released, during a programme Seminar Hall of the State Central Library here.
Tourism Department Director Cyril Darlong Diengdoh, who attended the programme as the chief guest, heaped praise on the literary work of Tariang for its candid and honest portrayal of Shillong.
“The book is not merely a directory of hotels and places; it helps tourists understand the nuances, culture, language and literature of the place. Both tourists and Shillongites will appreciate the beautiful message it brings,” he remarked.
Following the book launch, Diengdoh also inaugurated an exhibition of photographs by the author.
Speaking to reporters, Prof. Tariang revealed that the book was a heartfelt project, inspired by her life experiences.
“The book is a personal account of various aspects of Shillong such as its food, culture, markets, and more. While it is primarily intended for tourists, Shillongites will also find it an enjoyable read,” she said.
