SHILLONG, June 25: The Achik Krima Council (AKC) has called on Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to intervene and ensure the continuation of PR Sangma as the SDO (Civil) of Chokpot Sub-Division-cum-ADC of South Garo Hills. The appeal was made on Tuesday following the issuance of transfer order for Sangma.
In a petition to the chief minister, AKC vice president Greneth M. Sangma praised Conrad’s leadership, noting the significant development and progress Meghalaya has achieved under his tenure.
Greneth then went on to highlight PR Sangma’s exceptional dedication and commitment to the region’s growth since his appointment, stating that his transfer would be a significant loss to the South Garo Hills community, which has greatly benefited from his efforts.
“We strongly condemn the unethical politics aimed at transferring this dedicated servant,” Greneth stated, emphasising the necessity of PR Sangma’s continued presence in the region for the community’s welfare and development. He underscored the importance of commitment and transparency for the region’s progress.
In a separate petition to Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, Greneth reported that various district officers in South Garo Hills have been neglecting their official duties, frequently absenting themselves from their offices, particularly on Mondays and Fridays.
“As per public complaints from across South Garo Hills, these officers have consistently failed to attend to their responsibilities, causing undue hardship to the general public, particularly those from rural areas who visit the district headquarters for various needs. The deplorable road conditions and insufficient transportation facilities only exacerbate the situation,” Greneth said.
The AKC vice president then condemned this negligence and demanded prompt legal action against the errant officers. “It is unacceptable that they draw their salaries without fulfilling their official obligations. I urge you to take uncompromising legal action to address this issue and ensure the district officers perform their duties diligently,” he added.
