SHILLONG, June 30: The State BJP has issued a stern warning to the implementing agencies of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) over claims of completed projects that remain unfinished.
State BJP vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak, after inspecting several JJM projects across various villages, stated, “All completed projects should have satisfied beneficiaries availing ‘Har Ghar Jal.’ If families did not receive water, legal steps will be taken against the contractors, engineers, and all names published on the completion hoardings.”
Marak emphasised that the BJP would not tolerate incomplete projects and would hold those responsible accountable if the mission to provide potable running water to every family fails.
He announced plans to send a report to the Centre and to seek a high-level inquiry into the matter.
Marak further encouraged villagers without drinkable running water, despite JJM completion hoardings, to lodge complaints with photographs of the hoardings and related infrastructure (taps, pipes, tanks, etc.) on CSMC in arigri.com.
He also mentioned that the Arigri team would begin operations in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills districts in the second week of July.
This warning comes amid numerous complaints from different parts of the state regarding shoddy or incomplete JJM work.
While the state government maintains there are no anomalies in the JJM implementation, it acknowledged delays in certain sectors due to local issues, which it claims have now been resolved with work proceeding at full speed.
