TURA, July 1: The Achik Organization for Social Welfare (AOSW) from Nongalbibra in South Garo Hills has joined other groups to vehemently oppose the proposal for relocation of hoolock gibbons from Garo Hills.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the group said, “…we believe their relocation will cause harm to the animals, disrupt the ecological balance, and erase our cultural identity.”
The AOSW then urged the state government to reconsider its decision and explore alternative solutions. It also requested that a meeting be called in this regard to hold deliberations over the matter.
