MANCHESTER, July 11: Manchester United have finally agreed a deal to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.
The Netherlands striker has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer and the switch has gained momentum following his country’s elimination from Euro 2024.
Over the last few weeks, Zirkzee has been on international duty with the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
The young forward hasn’t been a regular feature for Ronald Koeman’s side, but his full focus has been on doing what he can for his country rather than any potential transfer.
With the Netherlands crashing out in the semi-final to England on Wednesday night, Zirkzee now appears to be edging closer to a move to United.
England beat the Netherlands 2-1 in Dortmund last night. Zirkzee came on as a substitute but it was too late for him to make a difference.
The 23-year-old will be the first signing under the new INEOS ownership.
United have decided not to trigger Zirkzee’s release clause but have negotiated better payment terms spread out over three years.Zirkzee is expected to sign a contract until June 2029, with an option to extend for an additional year.
Meanwhile, Manchester United has appointed Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy as assistant managers of the men’s first team, to work under Erik ten Hag until June 2026. Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher remain key parts of the staff as senior first-team coach and first-team coach, respectively. Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy have left the club. a statement released by the club said. (Agencies)
