Tura, July 12: The GSU from Nongalbibra in South Garo Hills on Friday moved Chief Minister Conrad Sangma urging him to upgrade the Nongalbibra PHC into a 30-bed hospital.

In its memorandum to Sangma, the union while pointing out that there are no government or private hospitals in the area and people have to depend on hospitals in Baghmara (63 kilometres away) and Williamnagar (45 kilometres), urged that the local PHC be upgraded as demanded.

The Union also sought the appointment of sufficient staff to ensure that it can function as a hospital. Other demands of the Union included the filling up of LDA and UDA posts to enable it to function as a hospital and an additional Grade IV sanctioned posts to add to the existing two.
