Tura, July 12: The Centre for Environment Protection and Rural Development (CEPARD) based in Garo Hills on Friday raised crucial concerns regarding the escalating water levels of Jinjiram and Brahmaputra rivers.

“The impact of climate change is becoming increasingly evident, leading to these rising water levels that pose a significant threat to the safety and well-being of the communities residing along these rivers. With each passing day, the situation grows more critical, highlighting the urgent need for proactive measures to mitigate the effects of environmental degradation,” its President, Samgar R Sangma said.

Sangma emphasized the importance of striving towards carbon neutrality as a key step in addressing these environmental challenges. CEPARD is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices that can help combat climate change and protect our precious natural resources, he added.

The organization has also urged the community to come together and support initiatives aimed at preserving our environment for future generations. It is only through collective effort and advocacy that we can hope to create a more sustainable and resilient world, it said.
