SHILLONG, July 13: The state government has decided to procure more land in the New Shillong Township area.
The New Shillong Township Development Agency recently issued a public notice stating that it proposes to procure additional land in addition to the already acquired land at Mawdiangdiang, Mawkasiang, Umsawli and Mawpdang for expansion of the township. The agency has invited tenders, seeking plots in and around Tynring, Mawkasiang, Mawdiangdiang, Umsawli, and Sawsiej areas.
It may be mentioned that the government intends to build the administrative city and even a knowledge city in New Shillong Township with an investment of thousands of crores of rupees. In the NST areas, several projects like LARITI, IIM Shillong, and NIFT have already been constructed while work is going on for other projects including the new building of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
However, the biggest concern right now is that the road connecting the NST with Shillong is not a massive one considering the fact that several infrastructures are already coming up in NST.
Even the road leading to NST in several areas is quite dusty and narrow and full of potholes.
