JOWAI, July 15: The Myntdu Farmers’ Welfare Producer Organisation and paddy field owners inspected their fields at Pynthornein Jowai-Shillong Road, damaged by sand and stone burial.
The damage resulted from the construction of the Jowai bypass road, where the contractor reportedly left earth on the roadside. Heavy rains carried soil and sand through the Kam-kam stream to the Myntdu River, affecting the fields.
Khroo L Pariat, adviser to the organisation, urged the government to repair the damage or compensate the farmers, who have suffered significant agricultural losses.
