SHILLONG, July 15: Soon after KSU Malki Circle leaders Iashan Mukhim and Mavian Jyrwa appeared before the police at the Sadar Police Station on Monday, the Union remarked that the police summon is a ploy to demoralise the members of the students’ body and create a sense of fear among them.
They were summoned by the police in connection with the alleged assault of migrant workers during the KSU’s ongoing drive to check work permits.
Later, Mukhim told reporters that they were summoned based on the FIR filed by the police “on the false accusation” that they had assaulted the migrant workers. But the KSU will keep fighting the problem of illegal migration, Mukhim said.
He asked the state government to immediately implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Act and mount pressure on the Centre to implement ILP in the state.
