SHILLONG, July 15: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has taken a strong note of the non-allotment of the housing units under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development programme to the beneficiaries in Nongpoh.
The scheme was sanctioned in 2008-09 to provide accommodation to poor families and 128 units were accordingly completed. But the beneficiaries have not been allotted these units and the place has reportedly become a hub for anti-social activities.
Stating that the units are government assets, Syiem said that 32 families received the approval to occupy the units in February 2022.
The Ri-Bhoi deputy commissioner has been directed to call a meeting with the local headman and ensure that the 32 beneficiaries occupy the units.
The MLA also took strong note of the solid waste management project being non-functional and the MLA has asked the director of Urban Affairs to submit a report to him within two weeks.
Syiem stressed the need for early completion of the Industrial Training Institute, stating that the project is 98% completed.
The project worth Rs 1.17 crore, needs a 32 KV transformer and the matter has been taken up with the MeECL.
