SHILLONG, July 18: After facing backlash over an order that re-classified Majai village in East Khasi Hills into a Raid, the KHADC on Thursday put on hold the contentious notice in view of the many complaints registered by different stakeholders.
The KHADC Executive Committee (EC) on Thursday decided to put on hold the Executive Committee (EC) order of June 21 to reclassify Majai into a Raid.
In a letter addressed to the Syiem of Hima Sohra, Freeman Sing Syiem, Deputy Secretary, KHADC, stated that they have decided to put on hold the EC’s order after receiving the complaint from different parties in the matter relating to Raid Majai, Sohra Syiemship.
“The same needs to be re-looked upon. Hence, vide its Order Dated 18th, July, 2004 the Executive Committee has decided to put on hold the Executive Committee Order D21 June, 2024,” the KHADC deputy secretary stated.
The letter was formally handed over by the KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member, Pynshngain N Syiem, to the residents of Sohra Syiemship in the presence of Sohra MDC and former CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne in his office chamber on Thursday evening.
The Sohra local MDC said that all stakeholders under Hima Sohra were unhappy with or rejected the decision of the Council to notify Majai as Raid.
Chyne said that Majai does not deserve to receive the status of a Raid and if it is to be notified as a Raid, it should be done by Hima Sohra.
Meanwhile, Milkyway Bynnud, convener of the Ki Khun Ki Hajar Hima Sohra, said that they were satisfied with the latest development.
The EC’s decision comes after the traditional leaders under Sohra Syiemship had recently threatened to storm the KHADC if the Council did not comply with their demand to revoke the June 24 notification reclassifying Majai into a Raid.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the traditional heads under Sohra Syiemship, Syiem of Hima Sohra had, on July 15, stated that they would be forced to approach the KHADC to compel the CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, to revoke the notification.
