MAWKYRWAT, July 22: The government’s inability to repair the Weiloi-Balat road under Mawsynram C&RD Block, East Khasi Hills, which is in a pitiable condition, has irked the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) Southern Border Area.
The HNYF has threatened to take stern action by organising series of agitation.
The decision came after a meeting of the HNYF Southern Border Area with different associations including the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners & Drivers Association, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawsynram Tourist Taxi Association, Sawsymper Tourist Taxi Association and Lawbah Tourist Taxi Association at Mawsynram on Monday.
Speaking to media persons, president of the HNYF Southern Border Area, Kyllang Thongni, said that the ‘irresponsibility’ of the state government to repair the Weiloi-Balat road has badly affected the people of Saw Symper area, Mawsynram area and also the people of South West Khasi Hills under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division.
“From time to time we have demanded the repair and widening of the Weiloi-Balat road, but all our voices fell on deaf ears. This road has been in terrible condition for the past many years, but it seems that the state government does not care about the problems faced by our people,” Thongni said, adding that the adamant attitude of the government has forced the HNYF to take action.
Thongni also said that two public meetings at Mawsynram Market and Balat Market will be held to enlighten the people before proceeding with the agitations. He also informed that all the associations have supported the HNYF in their fight against the injustice.
The HNYF will soon meet the PWD Minister demanding the repair and upgrade of the Weiloi-Balat road.
