Shillong, July 25: The HYC on Thursday threatened to close down the KHADC if it fails to take action against rubber manufacturing company named Resource Rubber Private Limited (RRPL) at Mawsmai, Ri Bhoi who is illegally operating without renewing the trading license issued by the council from April this year.

While speaking to reporters after meeting Executive Member in-charge Trade, Gigur Myrthong, HYC president, Roy Kupar Synrem said that the EM in-charge Trade has sought one week time to allow the legal team of the council to study on the documents concerning this firm.

“We have it very clear that it is futile to have the council office here in Shillong if it fails to implement its own law which it has formulated. We will not hesitate to close down the council office if it fails to act within the 7 days deadline which it had sought,” Synrem said.

He further mentioned that Section 7A of the Trading By Non-Tribals Regulation, 1954 has clearly stated that the council can initiate action against any person or firm if it is found to be carrying on trade or business without a valid trade license in contravention of the provisions of this Regulation.

Earlier on Monday, the leaders of the Ri-Bhoi district unit of HYC had conducted a raid on a rubber manufacturing company named Resource Rubber Private Limited (RRPL) at Mawsmai, following complaints of illegal operation without proper documentation from the relevant authorities.

A heated argument during the raid nearly escalated into a physical altercation between the members of the organisation and the owner of the company, Joginder Pal Kapoor. The owner allegedly tried to use force against the members of the organisation and refused to show the required documents.

The HYC finally shut down the company and warned of stringent action if it reopened without obtaining all the necessary documents.
