Education min visits Thomas Jones Synod College in Jowai

JOWAI, July 25: Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma visited Thomas Jones Synod College on Friday to honour its recognition under the People’s College Grant in Aid Scheme.
As the chief guest, Sangma praised the college’s founders for naming it after Rev Thomas Jones, the father of the Khasi alphabet. He emphasised the government’s focus on improving education statewide, noting that 21 colleges have been recognised under the People’s College Grant in Aid Scheme thanks to the efforts of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
During the ceremony, certificates were distributed among 23 lecturers and one librarian under the scheme. Additionally, six teachers who completed their PhD in various fields were awarded by the college.
The event, led by Rev Meshak Shylla, Chairman of the Governing Body of the college, included prominent attendees such as Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, Advisor to the government on Education HM Shangpliang, Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills BS Sohliya, District School Education Officer, A Syiem, lecturers, and students.
