Group seeks SGH DTO’s transfer over ‘irregularities’

TURA, July 25: The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) from Garo Hills has demanded the immediate transfer of the District Transport Officer (DTO), Baghmara, South Garo Hills alleging him of being irregular in his official duties and indulging in alleged corrupt practices.
The demand for the immediate transfer of the DTO was made in a letter written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma by ACHIK vice president Greneth M Sangma.
“Multiple complaints have been received from the general public regarding the illegal installation of a check gate and extortion of money from vehicle owners. The DTOs actions have caused immense suffering to the public with many being held up for a year to obtain diving licenses and RCs,” Greneth said, in his complaint.
Greneth sought the chief minister’s intervention in the matter and demanded that the DTO be immediately transferred as well as action taken against him as per law. He also sought an investigation into the allegations of the official’s irregular duties and corrupt practices.
Meanwhile, an FIR has also been filed against the said DTO at the Baghmara Police station over the matter, also by other members of the ACHIK.
The FIR claimed of an illegal check gate installed by the DTO at NH Weighbridge at Pasighat in South Garo Hills where vehicles are allegedly being extorted without any valid orders or receipts.
As per the claims, an amount of Rs 2000 per Light Passenger Vehicle, Rs 1500 per Altra Truck and Rs 500 per Pickup is being collected at the illegal check gate.
