JOWAI, July 30: Residents of Shilliangmyntang, Samatan, Thadialong to Takhniang, and Nongjngi villages which fall under the Mowkaiaw constituency in West Jaintia Hills, have expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the crucial road connecting several villages in the region.
This road links Mukroh, Barato, Thngrain, Shillong, Nartiang, Wahiajer, and Umulong. While repairs have been made on the stretch from Nartiang to Takhniang, the rest of the road remains in a state of disarray, causing significant hardship for the residents.
The poor road conditions have severely impacted transportation, making travel difficult, especially for those needing to access healthcare at the PHC Nartiang. Residents have voiced their frustration over the lack of government attention to this issue, emphasising that many villages rely on this road to reach health centres and obtain medicines.
In light of these challenges, the residents have called on the government, specifically the Public Works Department (PWD), to take immediate action to improve the road. They asserted their right to good infrastructure, highlighting the disparity between their road conditions and those in other parts of the state.
