SHILLONG, Aug 2: A minor dispute occurred on Friday after Meghalaya residents went to Barapthar village in Ri-Bhoi district to inquire about a person who allegedly sold a plot of land in a disputed area between Meghalaya and Assam.
The Ri-Bhoi Police informed that following their intervention, the crowd dispersed and were advised to submit their grievances in writing to the appropriate authorities.
According to police, the residents of Meghalaya went to Barapathar village to question one Md Nur Islam, a resident of the village, who allegedly sold a plot of land through the OLX website.
The land is located in an area of difference between Meghalaya and Assam.
According to a person, who claims to be the “real owner” of the plot, Islam has been selling land belonging to Meghalaya.
He claimed to have land records corroborating that much of the area under Barapathar village belonged to Meghalaya.
The other person, who reportedly bought the plot of land by paying Rs. 10 lakh to Islam, now wants a solution as he feels he has been duped.
