Nongpoh hospital marks 10 years with marathon

NONGPOH, Aug 3: In celebration of a decade of providing excellent healthcare services to the people of Ri-Bhoi, Bethany Hospital Outreach, Nongpoh, organized a marathon on Saturday morning, drawing a vibrant crowd of participants across various age groups for 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre races.
The marathon, which started at 5 am from the Bethany Hospital Outreach Nongpoh junction, passed through Iewmawlong and Marngar and concluded back at the starting point.
The event was participated by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem as the chief guest as well as doctors and staff of the hospital, village leaders of Pahamsyiem, and hundreds of participants.
Adding excitement to the event was the participation of renowned state athletes Kmoin Wahlang and Darisha Iangjuh, who also served as race ambassadors.
In his address, Syiem extended congratulations to the hospital for being the premier healthcare facility in the region and praised the family of Dr. John L Sailo Ryntathiang for their significant contributions to society through the hospital.
Meanwhile, prizes were also awarded to winners in different age categories such as 18 to 35 years, 36 to 45 years, 46 to 55 years, and those above 55 years.
In the 10-kilometer race, first-place winners received Rs. 10,000, while second-place and third-place winners received Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively.
Similarly, in the 5-kilometer race, first-place winners received Rs. 8,000, second-place winners Rs. 5,000, and third-place winners Rs. 3,000.
