TURA, Aug 5: The 4th Inter Mahari Men’s Football Tournament 2024 and 2nd Inter Mahari Women’s Football Tournament 2024 kick started today, August 5 here at the Chandmary Artificial Turf in Tura.Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma attended the inaugural function as the Chief Guest in the presence of District Sports Officer, Tura Saljagring Marak, Divisional Forest Officer, East and West Garo Hills Wildlife Division, Rupangkar K Marak, other dignitaries and Members of District Football Association, Tura.The Inter Mahari Football Tournament is being organized every year by the District Sports Office, Tura in collaboration with District Administration, West Garo Hills and District Football Association, Tura to encourage football enthusiasts among the Maharis and also to preserve the social fabric and unity among the clan members.The first match was played between Rongmuthu Mahari and Snal Mahari where Rongmithu Mahari scored 3 goals while Snal Mahari managed to score one.Altogether 38 Mahari teams are participating in the tournament which has increased considerably from the previous years. The final will be held on August 14.
