SHILLONG, Aug 8: Shillong will soon have two high-mast national flags that will add to the beauty of the capital city and instill the feeling of patriotism among the citizens.
The two high-mast flags will be installed on the Assembly Secretariat premises at Khyndai Lad.
Commissioner and Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Andrew Simons said on Thursday that one flag with a mast height of 100 feet will be installed on the side facing Police Bazar while the other which is proposed to be 52.5 feet high will face Vivanta Meghalaya.
The two high-mast national flags will be hoisted and inaugurated on August 15, either by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma or Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma.
Simons said that since Khyndai Lad is a landmark of the city and since Shillong does not have such huge flags, they came up with this idea to add to the beauty of the city.
The flag will be visible from several parts of the city, he said.
