Shillong, Aug 11: The Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA), in partnership with the state’s Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, successfully concluded the State Sub Junior and Junior Boys & Girls Boxing Championship on August 9.
Over 100 budding boxers from eight districts, as well as independent participants, showcased their talent at the Indoor Sports Hall, Mawlai Mawroh.
East Khasi Hills emerged as the overall champion, while West Garo Hills secured the runner-up position. The championship also recognized outstanding individual performances, with Leofernando Nongkhlaw and Elizabeth Z Ngamlai clinching the Best Boxer titles in the Sub Junior Boys and Girls categories, respectively. Ricky Rynjah and Melbarine Swer were awarded the Best Boxer honors in the Junior division.
The MBA expressed its hope that this championship will serve as a platform to identify and nurture young boxing talent in the state, aiming to produce future champions for regional and national competitions.
