SHILLONG, Aug 13: A chowkidar of the Meghalaya Assembly was found dead at his desk in the Assembly Printing Press building, located near Pegasus Hotel, on Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Lachuman Shrestha.
The alarming discovery was made by fellow staff members, who found Shrestha’s body with a syringe still in his right hand and suspected drugs on the desk nearby, leading to suspicions of a possible drug overdose.
In this regard, Assembly Commissioner and Secretary, Andrew Simons, has stated that the police have initiated an investigation into the matter. The body of the chowkidar has been sent to Civil Hospital, Shillong, for a post-mortem examination.
