Shillong, Aug 18: The Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee (RBDCC) is yet to receive any directive from Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to replace suspended party MLA from Mawhati Charles Marngar.
A senior leader of the RBDCC on Sunday informed that there are possibilities that the MPCC may appoint an ad hoc or temporary president for the committee.
“So far we are yet to receive any official communication for revamping of the party following the suspension of Marngar,” a senior leader of RBDCC said.
When asked to comment on the suspension of Mawhati MLA, he said that he has nothing to comment on since they will abide by the decision of the MPCC.
The senior leader however said that the district congress committee had no idea that Marngar was planning to join the NPP.
According to him, the suspended party MLA may have discussed his move with the members of the Mawhati Block Congress Committee (MBCC).
It may be recalled that a day after the Meghalaya Congress suspended its two sitting MLAs, the party on Saturday appointed Eric Kharsyntiew as the ad hoc/temporary president of the Nongstoin Block Congress Committee (NBCC) in place of Wahlang.
The decision to appoint Kharsyntiew as the ad hoc president was taken during a special meeting of the West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee (WKHDCC).
The special meeting was convened to discuss strategies to further strengthen the party across the three blocks of Nongstoin, Mawshynrut, and Rambrai-Jyrngam following reports that Wahlang was planning to join the ruling NPP.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, WKHDCC president Bormanding Nonglang said the ad hoc president was appointed following directions from both the AICC and MPCC.
Additionally, the committee also welcomed former Rambrai-Jyrngam MDC, JTS Thongni after he expressed his desire to return to his former party.
At the same time, Forteenson Lyngkhoi was appointed as the new general secretary of the Nongstoin District Congress Committee and will also oversee the party affairs in Mawshynrut.
