SHILLONG, Aug 18: As a gesture of unity between medical institutions with regard to the demand for safety and justice within the healthcare community across the country, the residents of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata have expressed their gratitude to the medical community at NEIGRIHMS in Shillong for their unwavering solidarity in the wake of a heinous crime that occurred on the college premises.
In a statement, the residents of RG Kar Medical College acknowledged the critical support provided by NEIGRIHMS during this challenging time. “As a prestigious institution of our nation, your support has been nothing short of invaluable during this difficult period. You have rightly emphasised that now is the time for our voices to be heard and for decisive action to be taken to ensure the protection of all of us,” the residents stated.
The show of solidarity from NEIGRIHMS came after the medical fraternity in Meghalaya united in protest by closing OPD services for a day, following the gruesome rape and murder of a resident doctor from RG Kar Medical College on August 9.
In their letter, the residents of the Kolkata-based medical college reaffirmed their commitment to seeking justice for the victim and emphasised the ongoing struggle to ensure that all healthcare professionals receive the protection they deserve. “We are resolute in our demand for justice and will persist in our fight until it is achieved, along with the protection that every healthcare professional rightfully deserves,” the letter concluded.
