One dead, another injured in SWKH road accident

MAWKYRWAT, Aug 19: A tragic road accident in Bamon village under the Nongnah area of South West Khasi Hills claimed the life of one person and left another with minor injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 4:30-5 pm.
According to the police, the accident involved a collision between a scooty bearing registration number ML 12 1979, traveling from Keniong village towards Ranikor, and a vehicle with registration number AS 03 AA 3177 on the Bamon PWD road.
The scooterist, identified as 35-year-old Balsan Arengh of Chijong Chiring village, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival. His body has been kept at the hospital morgue. The pillion rider, 49-year-old Happyrose Thongni of Nongnah, suffered minor injuries and was treated before being discharged.
The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Motiur Rahman from Bagmarachar village under Alopatichar Police Station, Barpeta, Assam, was detained, while his vehicle was seized by the police.
An FIR has been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
The police also confirmed that the five passengers in the vehicle were taken to Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital for medical examination. The vehicle has been moved to Mawkyrwat Police Station for safekeeping as legal procedures continue.
