NEC rape case

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, Aug 23: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has strongly condemned the alleged rape of a young woman employed by the North Eastern Council (NEC) in the state capital.
In response to the incident, the Commission has engaged with both the Health and Police Departments.
In a statement issued here, the MSCW aired its concern over the heinous act, noting that it violates basic human decency and undermines the safety that every employee should be assured of in their workplace.
The Commission unequivocally condemned the act of violence, expressing full support for the victim, and emphasised that rape is a severe violation of human rights that has no place in society, especially within the workplace.
Extending empathy to the survivor and assuring its commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure justice is served, the MSCW urged the authorities to conduct a thorough and swift investigation, hold the perpetrator accountable, and ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
Informing that it will closely monitor the progress of the case, the MSCW said, “This incident underscores the urgent need for organizations/institutions to foster a culture of respect and zero tolerance towards any form of harassment or violence against woman. It is imperative that employers implement strict measures and clear reporting mechanisms to protect all employees and prevent such abhorrent behavior.”
Meanwhile, the MSCW has also called on the NEC to review its policies and procedures to ensure they are robust and effective in preventing such incidents.
