SHILLONG, Aug 26: Guwahati-based freelance journalist Snehankar Chakraborty, along with two companions, embarked on a cycling expedition from Guwahati to Sohra to raise awareness about the social security of journalists and the impact of climate change.
The expedition, which started on August 22, also included student Santanu Moram and passionate cyclist Rambabu Thakur.
During an interaction with media persons at the Shillong Press Club here on Monday, Chakraborty emphasised the urgent need to collectively advocate for social security measures for journalists, including pensions and life insurance.
He, while citing official data, informed that more than 3,000 journalists were killed worldwide in 2020, with 99 per cent of them not receiving recognition for their work.
The freelance journalist also informed that they undertook the cycling expedition to also disseminate awareness on the impact of climate change.
He then appealed to various groups and organisations to take proactive measures to address the environmental crisis, stressing the importance of safeguarding the environment for future generations.
