SHILLONG, Aug 28: The state government is examining the proposal to enhance the share of the royalties on major and minor minerals of the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Wednesday.
In his reply tabled in the Assembly, Tynsong said that the government is also examining to make recruitment and exams compulsory in the three ADCs for transparency and accountability. He said that the sanctioned strength of the three ADCs are 818 (KHADC), 1,397 (GHADC) and 1,161 (JHADC).
Tynsong, who is also in-charge of District Council Affairs (DCA) department, said that pending bills of the three ADCs — six (KHADC), one (GHADC) and two (JHADC) — are still languishing with the department.
The Deputy CM said that an expert committee was constituted on September 26, 2023, headed by the Secretary of DCA department including officials from the Law department and district council officials. The Committee will coordinate the processing of all Bills sent to the Governor for his assent and sort issues, if any.
