Shillong, Aug 30: One person was killed due to a lightning strike while three others were injured at Mawshbuit Nongshilliang, on Wednesday evening.
The deceased, Lowel Nongrum (48) was declared dead on arrival at Shillong Civil Hospital. The injured persons were identified as Philis Kharkongor, Kerdrikus Kharkongor, and Steshon Mukhim all from Pingwait village in East Khasi Hills.
It was reported that the incident occurred when the four had taken shelter in a hut due to the heavy rainfall while working in the field.
It was said that the three injured gained consciousness on their own after being struck by lightning.
However, it has been informed that there was a slight delay in taking the deceased person to the hospital.
According to reports, the family members were reluctant to rush Nongrum to the hospital as traditionally it is believed that the person will regain consciousness if lightning strikes him again.
Exemption of post-mortem was granted, and the body was handed over to the family members. The police have registered an unnatural death case.
