53 non-functional SPTS buses set for auction

SHILLONG, Aug 31: The state government will soon auction off 53 non-functional buses from the Shillong Public Transport System (SPTS).
As per government data, a total of 66 non-functional SPTS buses the three red maxi cabs are currently lying idle in a government godown.
Out of the 66 STPS buses, 53 will soon be auctioned off, while the remaining 13 are slated to be handed over to schools and colleges outside Shillong city.
However, these educational institutions will need to bear the cost of repairing the buses.
It may be mentioned that the auction process for the 53 SPTS buses has been completed and the tender for the same will soon be floated.
Meanwhile, the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) is in the process of evaluating the non-functional maxi cabs with the District Transport Officer (DTO), after which the findings will be presented to the department’s condemnation committee.
