Shillong, Sep 1: The 63rd Subroto Cup’s Junior Boys Category (Under-17) is set to kick off on Monday, with a significant focus on the participating teams from across India and beyond.
Among the 37 teams competing for top honours, Meghalaya’s Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School from Ri-Bhoi stands out as one of the promising contenders in the prestigious tournament, which will unfold across various venues in New Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School has been placed in Group F, where they will face tough competition from Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37-B, Chandigarh—the defending champions—as well as teams from Bihar and the Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli. The Meghalaya team will be looking to make a mark in this fiercely competitive group and advance to the knockout stages.
The tournament will feature a total of 16 matches on its opening day, spread across venues such as Ambedkar Stadium and Tejas Football Ground in New Delhi, and G.D Goenka World School and KIIT Global School in Gurugram.
The group stage matches will continue until September 6, with only the group winners advancing to the quarterfinals, scheduled for September 7.
Apart from the domestic teams, the tournament also boasts international representation from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.
The semifinals are slated for September 9, with the grand finale scheduled to be held at Ambedkar Stadium on September 11.
As the tournament kicks off, all eyes from Meghalaya will be on the young footballers of Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, who will be hoping to bring pride to the state by progressing deep into the tournament.
