Boys engrossed in phone mowed down by train
DURG (CHHATTISGARH), Sep 1: Two boys were killed after a train hit them while they were sitting on a railway track and playing games on their mobile phones in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred around 7 pm on Saturday when the boys, both aged 14, were sitting on the railway track in the Risali area under the Padmanabhpur police station limits, an official said. The official said the duo were so engrossed in their mobile phones that they could not hear the horn from the Dalli Rajhara-Durg local train. The train hit the boys, and they died on the spot, he said. The police reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem, he said. (PTI)
Man killed with pair of scissors; attacker at large
THANE, Sep 1: Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have launched a search to track down a man who allegedly killed a 38-year-old resident of Badlapur area with a pair of scissors, an official said on Sunday. Accused Rajpal Ramcharan Gautam (23) fatally attacked Indrajit Deepakkumar Gautam on Saturday night, the official said. It is not yet clear if the two knew each other. Meanwhile, the Mumbra police have registered a murder case after the body of a 52-year-old man, who had gone missing, was found with wounds caused by sharp weapons, officials said. An official said that the victim in the second case, Damodar Kondiba Pagde, a resident of Dadar in Mumbai, was killed between August 27 and August 30. (PTI)
Accused found dead in lock-up; cops suspended
MORENA (MP), Sep 1: Three cops were suspended after a murder accused was found hanging in the lock-up of a police station in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district on Sunday morning, officials said. Seniors were alerted after the body of Balkrishna Jatav, alias Sunny, was found hanging from a cloth tied to a window inside the lock-up of the Civil Lines police station around 5.30 am, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bhupendra Singh Kushwaha told PTI. He said that Sunny, originally from Gwalior, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing his brother-in-law whose body was found near a channel in the district last December. However, Sunny’s family have contested the time of his arrest claiming that he had been taken into custody four days ago. After visiting the spot, Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh suspended the police station in-charge and inspector Rambabu Yadav, and a head constable and a constable over the custodial death, Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Thakur said. The ASP said prima facie it appears that Sunny died by suicide. (PTI)
