SHILLONG, Sep 2: Governor CH Vijayashankar on Monday felicitated the U-15 team of Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School for their remarkable victory in the 63rd Subroto Mukherjee International Cup 2024, during a programme at Raj Bhavan here.
This victory is a historic first for Ri-Bhoi district, with schools from the district winning state-level championships across all three categories—U-15 boys, U-17 girls, and U-17 boys—and representing Meghalaya on the international stage.
Addressing the gathering, Vijayashankar emphasised the importance of adolescence, and said, “Adolescence is the best age to learn, grow and excel. This is the time when young minds are most receptive, and it is crucial to guide them towards greatness.”
The governor also praised the school management for its dedicated efforts in nurturing the young athletes. “The management deserves special recognition because it is no easy task to nurture talent to such an extent. They are the real assets of our state,” he remarked.
The Governor also acknowledged the U-17 girls and U-17 boys’ teams, who have both qualified for the international Subroto Cup, marking this as a historic moment for Meghalaya.
He expressed confidence that Meghalaya’s players would continue to achieve success in the future.
Vijayashankar then called on the state government to organise more such programmes to inspire and motivate young talents to scale greater heights, bringing more medals and trophies to Meghalaya.
The ceremony concluded with the governor presenting the young athletes with Certificates of Appreciation, gift hampers, mementoes, and a cheque of Rs 1,01,000.
