SHILLONG, Sep 6: East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger on Friday said the police did not intentionally stop the vehicle of Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit during checking against the use of tinted glasses on August 22.
He said that the police were doing random checking in Mawlai against vehicles using tinted glasses when the Nongkrem legislator’s vehicle also happened to pass through.
However, after realising that the vehicle belonged to the legislator, it was allowed to proceed.
It may be mentioned that VPP MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit had opposed the use of tinted glasses and sought action against individuals behaving themselves as VIPs by using coloured glasses.
It was during the 2023 Assembly session that the VPP legislator raised the issue saying that there are too many people who are behaving themselves as VIPs. He alleged that such people sometimes are friends, relatives, or business partners of those at the helm of affairs.
