Sohiong college UG student shines

Shillong, Sep 6: Within ten years of its existence, Meribon K H Memorial College, Sohiong achieved a major landmark after a student of the college made it to the top 10 merit list in the final semester of the under graduate BA programme.
Baritngenlang Shabong secured the 8th position in the merit list while 23 students of the college who appeared the BA final semester examination also performed well.
The governing body of the college on Thursday during the teacher’s day celebration felicitated the position holder and other students for bringing laurels to the college.
Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon and others were present during the occasion.
President of the governing body, Marvelene Rymmai recalled that her late father decided to set up the college to cater to the students from the Sohiong area especially those coming from poor families.
Principal of the college, Robert L Mawnai said that the college is grappling with challenges since they are not getting any support from the state government.
Meanwhile, Shillong MP said that it is encouraging to see that the college has made a mark within a short period.
According to him, this journey would not have been possible without the contribution and dedication of the teachers, students, staff, and management.
He suggested that the college should strive to greater heights by starting the commerce and science stream.
It may be mentioned that the college was named in memory of the former Minister, late HDR Lyngdoh, and inaugurated by former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in August 2015.
