TURA, Sep 10: The Tura Garo Senior Citizens’ Forum (TGSCF) on Tuesday called for an end to the deadlock caused by the non-disbursement of salaries to the employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
In a letter to GHADC CEM Albinush Marak, the Forum flagged the issue of hardships, reportedly faced by the residents of Garo Hills over the continuous non-functioning of the GHADC.
“The citizens of Garo Hills are not being able to obtain various types of documents/papers and other requirements from GHADC, which are relevant to other works due to the fact that the GHADC offices are at a standstill because of the ongoing agitation by their employees,” the general secretary of the Forum, LC Momin, said.
Raising the issue of the agitating GHADC employees, who have been demanding the release of their salaries that have been pending for 35 months, the Forum maintained that there has been ample time for the authorities to initiate the process for the payment of the salaries as demanded, as the same was approved by the GHADC EC back in March 2018.
“The non-payment of salaries for 35 months causes huge hardships; non-receipt of wages even for 2-3 months is not bearable in present days. It is needless to mention that due to the halted work, the GHADC also loses opportunities to garner collection of its revenue, which will further deteriorate management of its pecuniary situation,” Momin said.
He then urged the GHADC authority to initiate remedial measures by taking appropriate steps to end the impasse and ensure that the works are resumed at the GHADC offices, especially in the interest of all stakeholders, including the GHADC employees and the general public.
